Our annual Giants Twenty20 cricket family fun day took part on Sunday 25th August, once again at the beautiful setting of Honley CC, despite the weather not being great – compared to last year anyway!- the events was still a success on and off the cricket field.

With over 20 stalls, including the local RAFA , fundraising from the MNDA and Yorkshire Air Ambulance there was plenty to keep people occupied, not to mention our own marquee selling a wide range of donated merchandise and goods.

Local Honley company BurgerBurger provided the food, delicious it was too! and the coffee van did a roaring trade as did the cricket club’s bar, even the ice cream van was kept busy considering it was a fairly grey and blustery day with the odd shower.

The youngsters enjoyed a bouncy castle as well as other stalls and also took part in a tug of war with the Giants players, comfortably beating their more illustrious opponents!

The Giants women were also present and ran a skills and tackling workshop, which proved very popular with the fans and the Giants squad and staff were all present to meet, greet and mingle with the fans.

On the field, the cricket game was a thriller, the game pitched The English, led, of course,  by Matty English against Ashton Golding’s Rest of the world/Jamaican all stars team.

It was Golding’s side who eventually came out on top after an entertaining battle, see the Report of the game here

The day is organised as a joint effort between the Huddersfield Giants and the HGSA, the club arrange the on field cricketing stuff while the HGSA organise all the off field things, stallholders etc etc, the whole day is organised and run by our volunteers and the staff at Honley Cricket Club, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved this, and other years for giving up their time and volunteering to make the day and the event a success year after year and we now look forward to planning 2025’s event!
