At the recent Giants v St Helens womens game, which was the penultimate home game of the season for the women, players from both sides showed their appreciation for our volunteers who run the games at Laund Hill.

Led by Mick Ball, the team organise the gates, raffle, sell merchandise, look after the scoreboard and also act as ballboys/ballgirls, a role that the younger volunteers really enjoy and proud of doing.

The HGSA also present the player of the match medal at the end of the game, which is always appreciated by the staff and players.

As well as being volunteers, we are also fans, not just of the Giants women but also the womens game as a whole, St Helens are the games’ top team and are littered with England internationals, including the England captain and Sky Sports pundit Jodie Cunningham, England hooker and RFL match official Tara Jones among others.

After a tough game in which the Giants girls gave everything and made the Saints work hard for their 40-8 win, players from both sides including the player of the match Georgia Hampshaw, Giants captain Bethan Oates, former Giant and England international Erin Stott, Tara Jones and England internationals Vicky Whitfield, Channy Crowl and Leah Burke spent time with our volunteers who were more than happy to let the stars of the game pose for photos with them!

This is just one of the benefits of volunteering with the HGSA, if you’d like to be a part of it and enjoy moments like these then please get in touch with us.
